Last week end in the Place Dumont, one of the richest districts of Brussels, Malta was the guest of honour at the famous traditional Christmas Market of Woluwe San Pierre. This prestigious seasonal event is the only covered Christmas Market in Brussels. Several thousand people visited this festive event in the quaint Place Dumont, which is also a transport hub, where they were greeted with complimentary glasses of Delicata’s I.G.T. quality wine range, Pjazza Regina.
This was the very first time that Malta has participated in this extremely visible and high profile event. This participation was thanks to the initiative of the Embassy of Malta in Brussels and to the generous assistance of Emmanuel Delicata Winemaker, Malta Tourism Authority, Malta Business Bureau, EF Language Schools, in collaboration with Air Malta.
Throughout the event which was held from the 9th to the 12th of December, the stand of Malta attracted strong attention. Several thousands of promotional leaflets containing useful facts about Malta were distributed. Visitors on the opening night were treated to glasses of Pjazza Regina award winning red wine made from a blend of Syrah, Merlot and Sangiovese grapes together with the Pjazza Regina white made from Chardonnay, Girgentina, Viognier and Vermentino and the unique Pjazza Regina rose made from Gellewza and Grenache. “This home-grown Maltese wine was remarkably well received and appreciated and added to the ‘discovery’ of Malta which was described as Europe’s best kept secret” a spokesperson from the Embassy said.
Several important personalities visited the stand of Malta and met with Ambassador Pierre Clive Agius, including the Hon. Mr. Benoit Cerexche, Minister for the Economy, Employment, Research and Administration of the Government of the Region of Brussels, and Dr. William Draps, the Mayor of Woluwe San Pierre.
The Malta stand was also decorated by traditional ‘Bambin Gesu’ adorned with the several pots of beautiful white sprouts of vetches. |
