DELICATA WINES AT CEN CONFERENCE
22.06.2010

Delegates attending the CEN and CENELAC seminar where treated to an assortment of Delicata D.O.K. wines at their 6th annual meeting held recently in Malta. At the opening reception, held at the Westin Dragonara hotel, delegates were offered a selection of Delicata’s D.O.K. Gozo wines Victoria Heights, which included the medal winning Chardonnay, a Merlot and a Rose made from 100% Shiraz. The wines all received favourable comments from the international audience which helped get the conference off to a positive start.

During the Gala dinner, which was held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, Delicata D.O.K. wines were paired up with a menu starting off with a Tuscan roasted vegetable tart served with French fried onions, crispy capers, parmesan flakes served on lettuce leaves with smoked tomato vinaigrette. This was accompanied by a 2008 Grand Vin de Hauteville Viognier D.O.K. Superior Malta. The second course was a Goats cheese ravioli with sundried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, pesto cream and parmesan flakes which required an oak aged wine such as 2008 Grand Vin de Hauteville Chardonnay D.O.K. Malta, which is Delicata’s most internationally awarded white wine. The main course which was fillets of sea bream with a lemon crust served with potato and bacon gratin, roasted peppers and a kalamata olive emulsion was accompanied by a more delicately oaked barrel fermented 2008 Gran Cavalier Chardonnay D.O.K. Malta.

A full bodied red wine, the 2008 Grand Vin de Hauteville Shiraz Cabernet D.O.K. Gozo, was also made available for people wanting something other than white wine and it went surprisingly well with the evenings dessert which was a Gianduia and lemon delight with warm chocolate savarin and a redcurrant compote.

The two day event was held under the auspices of the Malta Standards Authourity (MSA) was the 6th Annual meeting of CEN and CENELAC.
