DELICATA HOST "THANK-U-WINE PARTY"
08.04.2009

Delicata recently hosted a ‘Thank-U Wine Party’ at Palazzo Palina for all its Gozo clients and used the opportunity to introduce two new editions to their successful range of D.O.K. Gozo wines, Victoria Heights. The pre Christmas party was held to say thank you to all of Delicata’s clients for their support throughout the year and each one was greeted by members of the Delicata family together with the company’s Gozo agent Charlie Calleja of Calbo Ltd.

Hundreds of guests filled the beautiful old Palazzo at the Ta’Cenc hotel and enjoyed a long evening of delicious food prepared by the hotel, good entertainment from local group Cash and Band, and a large selection from the company’s Q.W.P.S.R. wines. The wines available included recently released 2007 vintage D.O.K. Medina Syrah, Medina Vermentino Zibbibo, Grand vin de Hauteville Cabernet Sauvignon Superior and oak aged Chardonnay and wines from The Maltese Falcon range and of course Victoria Heights.

The two new Superior D.O.K. Gozo wines are a 2007 Rose wine which is made entirely from the Cannonau grape and is a delightful, fruity dry rose wine with a vibrant pink colour and an aroma of fresh strawberries. The second of the new wines is a 2007 classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc that has been softened in French oak barriques. It’s a full bodied wine with ripe fruit flavours and warm mellow tannins.

These two latest editions to the Victoria Heights range join the Merlot and Chardonnay which were recently awarded 10 points at a wine tasting held by Holland’s biggest national newspaper De Telegraff. Pieter Nijdam from the papers wine club said “We examined the Chardonnay which was matured for a short period of time in French barriques and the result is a surprisingly nice, modern Chardonnay with stone fruity characters.  Vanilla and honey flavours linger on the palate, a very nice glass of wine”.  “Onto the Merlot, honestly I am not a huge fan of Merlot, give and take the odd exception.  And, this is one of these exceptions!  It’s fruit driven, with ripe plums and cherries.  Not overly complex, but this wine doesn’t claim to be that anyway.  It’s just a very well balanced wine” – Malta 10 points.

The fifth wine in the Victoria Heights range is the Rose Shiraz which was awarded a Commendation (along with the Chardonnay) at this year’s International Wine Challenge in London. The 2008 vintage of this wine should be released shortly.
