Gozo’s largest wine event gets underway tonight at the Gnien il-Kunsil in Nadur.
This will be the eighth Delicata Classic Wine Festival to take place at the viticultural heart of Gozo in close collaboration with the Nadur Local Council.
The 3 day event, which celebrates the closing days of the Maltese grape harvest, attracts thousands of visitors each year at a venue that enjoys spectacular views of Nadur valley leading down to Mgarr and across the channel taking in the islands of Comino and Malta.
For wine lovers attending from Malta, a festival shuttle service is available (€2.00 per person per return trip) from the Mgarr ferry terminal, so cars could be conveniently left in Cirkewwa if they so wish. At the festival which begins each night at 7.00pm over two dozen D.O.K. and I.G.T. quality wines will be available to taste. Visitors simply need to purchase a souvenir wine glass for €10.00, which is then theirs to keep, and try as many as the wines as they like. There is no entrance fee, so anyone attending can enjoy the live entertainment each night absolutely free and take advantage of a wide assortment of food items for sale. Steve Cole will be performing each night alongside Cash and band on Friday 3rd, Spectrum on Saturday 4th and Synergy on Sunday 5th, with the music stopping at midnight.
The range of Delicata Malta grown quality wines available will include their medal winning wines Grand vin de Hauteville, Gran Cavalier, Maltese Falcon, Pjazza Regina, Gellewza and Girgentina Frizzante and Malta’s most popular Rose wine Dolcino as well as Gozo’s very own Victoria Heights. Glasses will be sold up until 11.00 each night and the last wines will be poured at 11.30pm, before the wine festival finishes at midnight.
The foods available will include tasty dishes such as Suckling pig, pizza and desserts by Maypole from Malta, an Oriental selection by Pings of Victoria and Xlendi, a Rabbit restaurant by L’Aragosto from Marsalforn plus pasta, crepes, kebabs and Gozitan ftira from other food stall holders. |
