MALTA WINE & GUATEMALA FISH
08.04.2009

At a celebratory dinner representatives from Emmanuel Delicata presented another cheque to the owners of Café Jubilee as a contribution towards its Tilapia fish farm project in Guatemala. The project which started nearly 30 months ago is just about to harvest its very first fish.

The cheque presented was a contribution on all the bottles of Delicata wines sold throughout 2008 in all three Café Jubilee outlets in Valletta, Victoria, Gzira and in the Otters restaurant in Marsalforn, Gozo.

The idea of Project Tilapia was to fund the setting up of a fish farm in the area that would help the local community in a number of ways. The most obvious benefit is the creation of an economically viable workplace that will help the community financially but in addition it will also introduce a new high protein food item into the local daily diet.

Initially the fund was set up by Café Jubilee to help a young Gozitan missionary working in Guatemala, to develop an internet centre within the school where he worked. This was quickly achieved and Café Jubilee readily agreed to work on this bigger project of creating a fish farm with aquaculture expert Professor Aguis.

Delicata came onboard as a contributor some 18 months ago pledging an amount on each bottle of Delicata wine sold from all of their wine brands which include The Maltese Falcon, Medina, Victoria Heights, the Classic Collection, Gellewza Frizzante and Grand vin de Hauteville.

The celebratory dinner and presentation took place at a specially organized ‘chefs table’ in the kitchen of the Hilton Malta along with an exclusive 8 course dinner with accompanying Delicata D.O.K. quality wines.
