Smart Supermarket has been acknowledged, by Malta’s leading winemaker Emmanuel Delicata, as one of Malta’s very first retailers to combine wine purchases and digital technology, which enables their customers to enjoy a more convenient and informed wine retail experience.

As one of Malta’s longest running supermarket’s that has never shied away from implementing new technology, Smart has been awarded with the Delicata Best Digital Wine Retail Award. This award is part of a new initiative by the winemaking company, who is another long-established local family run organization that is well known as a pioneering, driving force of the Maltese wine industry.

The Delicata Retail Awards credit different off-trade proficiencies and wine retail categories. They endeavour to give value to high-standard retailing of wine in general and the merchandising of Delicata wines in particular.

Smart Supermarket has been commended with Delicata’s Best Digital Retail Award thanks to the shop’s many modern and interactive ways of purveying wines, which can be purchased in-store or online from the comfort of the wine enthusiast’s armchair.

“For ages, the romance of wine has revolved around the people, places and circumstances of its making” said Georges Meekers, head of sales for Emmanuel Delicata Winemaker, at the award-giving ceremony. “At Smart Supermarket, modern technology enables us to bring our wines alive on the shop floor and the Web by sharing our passion for Maltese wines and stories in a vivid and unfiltered way.”

Emmanuel Delicata Winemaker recognises and values not only that Smart Supermarket has been early to adapt and set-up their own online shop, giving prominent exposure to quality Malta grown wines, but also that they continue to embrace digital tools such as in-store Bluetooth advertising, point of sale self-scanners and animated, digital signage on the Delicata wine section.

 At the award giving ceremony, Delicata’s retail sales manager Karl Debono, presented Smart Supermarket’s director Mr Joe Grech with a framed certificate of the award plus a personalized 3 litre double magnum of the company’s flagship red wine Gran Cavalier Syrah.
